The folly of denouncement resolutions

The Republican Party has policy positions that most Americans agree with. Men. Women. Americans of every race, religion, sexuality, and economic class. Yet the GOP works overtime on undermining this advantage.

The problem is the GOP’s incompetence at getting its message out. They also do stupid things that distract themselves from important work. Take for instance the recent resolution condemning socialism, done shortly after the Republicans retook control of the House of Representatives in 2023, and then putting forth a list of those who voted against it. The Democrat National Committee countered with their own asshattery with a vote against “white religious nationalism,” which was itself an extension of their House resolution in 2019 against plain old “white nationalism” when they controlled the House. This dueling disavowal and denouncement on both sides is political retardation.

Does a politician need to go through the phone book and history books in order to disavow or denounce everyone deemed bad by today’s standards or the standards of one’s political enemy? Do we need a resolution against murder, cancer, embezzlement, or other bad things, so that a person can prove his or her virtue, or confirm one’s ideological purity or fealty? Does voting against a resolution against cancer mean you’re somehow for cancer? Several years ago, the city council in my own city passed a resolution against hate. This moronic action did nothing to improve the city’s congeniality, but it did dump more imbecility into a world awash in it.

This nonsense has predictably metastasized and now infected the processes used for hiring and university admissions. Diversity statements to accompany applications are becoming more common and used to ferret out the ideological pure (or the cowardly who are afraid to protest) from the dastardly heretics. Though these are largely done in furtherance of the Woke’s demented ideology, other fascists may be tempted to resort to this vile intrusiveness. This must stop.

Employment or a university admission should not depend on one’s personal ideology. This is totalitarianism plain and simple, no matter how much it’s gussied up in terms of enlightenment and virtue. The Nazis, Stalinists, Maoists, Khmer Rouge, and Peoples Temple were self-assured of their own virtue. “But we’re not like them,” the Woke insist. Actually, you damn well are. These previous evildoers insisted likewise, as does every would-be tyrant. Ideological purity tests for jobs or university slots must be outlawed.

In summary: Knock this stupid shit off! Everyone. These meaningless resolutions against ideologies or abstract concepts like “hate” are childish performative theater. It’s the actions or nonactions related to an ideology we must concern ourselves with, not that the ideology exists.
